  • Y5 investigate very large numbers

    Published 28/09/21

Year 5 have been reviewing how to read and write numbers to 100 000.

We then quickly moved onto numbers to 1 000 000. They used concrete materials to represent numbers to 1 000 000, including number discs and place-value charts. They were able to compare numbers to 1 000 000 using their knowledge of place value, then completing the unit by making number patterns and rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 1000, 10 000 and 100 000.

  • Y6 have been learning about BIDMAS

    Published 27/09/21

Year 6 have learnt that the order of operations in an equation matter.

BIDMAS helps you to remember the order that you need to do your mathematical calculations where there is more than one mathematical operator (any combination of brackets, indices, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction).

This easily remembered acronym stands for:

    B rackets
    I ndices (powers of)
    D ivision
    M ultiplication
    A ddition
    S ubtraction

Well done Year 6 there were some tricky calculations!

  • A Rivers Tail

    Published 24/09/21

To support our learning about rivers, Rhine Class headed off to Langford Lakes Nature Reserve to take part in a Rivers Tale.

We had a super day exploring the geography and ecosystem of the River Wylye, it's landforms, wildlife and habitats. We walked along this amazing chalk river mapping key features like a riffle, tributary and confluence.

After this we measured the river's speed, temperature and flow.

Finally, we did some kick sampling and uncovered some exciting underwater creatures.

  • A great start to the year

    Published 15/09/21

Rhine class enjoyed an action-packed day at The Lake. Activities included canoeing, team games, archery, bushcraft and making popcorn.

It was lovely to see how the children supported and encouraged each other to try new things.

Lots of teamwork used here to be the first to get the ball!

A well deserved lunch break before bushcraft.

Creating fires before cooking popcorn. Yummy!
