  • African Artwork

    During Term 4, Amazon Class have been exploring African Art. We started by looking at the magnificent painting of South African artist, Esther Mahlangu, who creates bold, symmetrical artwork using repeated patterns. We then created artwork in the style of this artist.

    We have also enjoyed making Batik bunting to decorate our corridor, observing the bright colours commonly seen on fabrics in Africa.

    Finally, we explored the Maasai Tribe and their way of life in comparison to our own and created collar jewellery in the style of the tribe.

  • Cotswold Wildlife Park Adventures

    On Friday, Amazon Class enjoyed an exciting trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park as part of our 'On Safari' topic. It was a beautiful day for adventuring and the children eagerly explored all the different animals who inhabit the park.

    We were on the lookout for animals that live in Africa; finding lions, rhinos, meerkats, giraffes, zebras and many more. We enjoyed an African Animal talk by a zookeeper who told us all about how animals survive and adapt in the wild, and how they care the animals at the park. We were very surprised to hear what the zookeepers feed the lions at the zoo!

    We also loved meeting the lemurs who were very friendly, watching the penguins being fed and spotting Sonny the meerkat from 'Meerkat Mail'.

    Whilst on our trip the children of Stanton made us so proud, being considerate of the animals and working together to complete the challenges set. A huge well done, Amazon Class! 🦒🦏🦁

  • Creating Artwork for our Library

    Today we continued our World Book Week celebrations by creating artwork and sculptures of book animals for our new library, supported by a local artist. We cannot wait to display our artwork in our new library!

  • World Book Day 2022

    Yesterday we continued our World Book Day celebrations and what a wonderful day we had!

    Smiles, stories and a spectacular costume parade started our day, followed by World Book Day badge making and a Stanton ’Booknic’ in the afternoon. This was an opportunity for children across the school to share the magic of stories together. Bunting, blankets, books and bear biscuits helped to create these special memories, captured within our photographs.

    Teachers dressed up as bears from books and the children enjoyed matching the bear to the book, whilst words from stories could be heard in the air throughout the day.

    Many children returned to school for bedtime stories and hot chocolate, whilst parents and families joined Mrs Anderson for a workshop about the importance of reading.

    So many happy memories made.

  • A Magical Reading Woodland Adventure

    Today, Darling and Amazon Class started their World Book Week celebrations by going on a magical storytelling adventure in the woods. On the way to the woods, the children were challenged to think of as many book titles as possible and took part in a book themed quiz before entering our woodland adventure.

    Lots of excited children then entered the woodland, following a trail of book covers which led them to their magical story adventure.

    The children were amazed to see that four of the trees had been transformed into storytelling trees! Who knew that books grew on trees?

    Each group then made their way from one tree to the next, listening to four wonderful stories and exploring the themed story trees. We enjoyed; 'Stuck', 'Little Red Reading Hood', 'Pip and Egg' and 'There is No Wolf in this Story'.

    It was an absolute joy to see the children in awe of the stories brought to life using our woodland space and talking so enthusiastically about reading. I feel that one child's comment summed up this enthusiasm perfectly- "I want to read even more books when we get back to school!"

    We are all suitably excited for World Book Day tomorrow!

  • 100 Miles in March for WWF

    Published 06/03/22

    And we're off! Mrs Anderson and Amazon Class have started their 100 Miles in March Challenge today and are ready and raring to go with their mission, despite being a little tired and 'jelly legged' after our second run today!

    Each day during our class assembly, the children shall learn a little more about the life-saving work that WWF do, to ensure they know what little superstars they are.

    Thank you to everyone that has sponsored us so far. It's going to be a long March..!
