    Published 11/02/22

    This week, the children have been thinking about different emotions during Children's Mental Health week, including the things that make us feel happy and how we can help others when they may not feel the same.

    The theme this year is 'Growing Together'. As a class we discussed who helps us to grow and why this is so important for our mental health.

    The children made these hands, drawing themselves on the palm and filling the fingers with those who help them to grow.

  • An Arctic Afternoon

    Published 01/02/22

    Yesterday afternoon, Amazon Class enjoyed an Arctic Afternoon, which started by debating, 'Would you like to live in the Arctic?'

    The children used sentence stems to share their opinions;

    "I would not like to live in the Arctic because it is too cold and I don't like the cold."

    "Perhaps it would be exciting to live in the Arctic because you can do tobogganing and go on a snowmobile."

    "I don't think I would like to live in the Arctic because I wouldn't want to wear animal skins because I really like animals."

    "If I lived in the Arctic I could build snowmen every day!"

    "In my opinion it would be good to live in the Arctic because you can build an igloo and live in it."

    "I would like to live in the Arctic because I would like to have an Arctic hare."

    "I would and I wouldn't like to live in the Arctic because I love playing in snow but I don't want to eat meat all the time because I like sweets too much!"

    We then took part in a carousel of activities;

    - Making Inuit snow glasses to protect our eyes from the sun rays reflecting off the snow.

    - Working as a team to build an igloo using sugar cubes.

    - Exploring some wonderful books all about the Arctic, including breath- taking photographs.

    - Using the computers to draw a picture of the Arctic and type a sentence.

    We used lots of different skills!
