Phonics to Teach Spelling in KS2

To maintain consistency in our approach to teaching and learning the skills of spelling, we use a Sounds Write phonics approach to teach spelling in Key Stage 2. Children continue to be taught using a sounds based approach, exploring the polysyllabic composition of words.

Children are encouraged to apply this polysyllabic phonetic approach when reading and spelling, to support accuracy and understanding of more complex vocabulary.
